Left Lane News has released some information on the possible future-development of a mid-engine Corvette:
While speaking to a European trade magazine, a Saab engineer let slip that the former General Motors division was charged with developing a dual-clutch transmission for a “mid-engined version of the Corvette.” The wet-clutch transmission was being design to handle up to 590 lb-ft of torque.
It’s believed that Chevrolet had a fully engineered prototype of a mid-engine Corvette ready to be put on the production path, but the market crash of 2008 and GM’s subsequent bankruptcy but the brakes on the entire project.
