Purifoy Chevrolet is proud to unveil our newest custom Corvette!!! We started with a 3LT Grand Sport Convertible equipped with F55 Magnetic Ride Control and Navigation Radio. Then the bodyshop painted the car Admiral Blue with the white stripe and fender hash marks. A front splitter, side skirts, rear spoilet and lower diffuser were added to the car as well. It that is not enough.... the service department added the Edelbrock E-Force supercharger that ups the horsepower to 599 and the torque to 547 ft-lbs. To make it sound as good as it runs, a Corsa exhaust was added. To finish the whole thing off, custom seats and door panels were added. Come see this car in our Indoor Corvette Showroom! BusinessWeek Review of 2010 Corvette Grand Sport
My Rule No. 1 when it comes to car reviewing: Any excuse to drive a Corvette.
Following that rule put me behind the wheel of a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport just as the first days of spring arrived in hilly northeast Pennsylvania. I wasn't disappointed. Most of the time I was totally exhilarated.
The Grand Sport, a new version of the iconic two-seater Chevy sports car, splits the difference between the regular Corvette and the powerful, much more expensive Z06. Basically, the GS replaces the Z51 performance package that used to be an option on the base-model Corvette.
The GS has the same 6.2-liter, 430-hp V8 found in the regular Corvette, and is offered as either a coupe or a convertible. Either way, it includes a number of Z06-style upgrades, among them bigger brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, wider front and rear fenders, and a front splitter and tall rear spoiler, as well as fender stripes and vents and unique alloy wheels. These aren't all cosmetic enhancements. Many of them improve the car's aerodynamics and handling so that it hugs the road even more tenaciously than a regular Corvette.

Motor Trends' First Look: 2010 Corvette Grand Sport
Underneath all the shiny/pretty it's a base steel-frame LS3-powered 'Vette, to which are fitted a mix of Z51 performance package parts (spring rates, closer ratio manual transmission gearing and shorter axle ratio on the automatic), and Z06 bits (front and rear fascias, hood, anti-roll bars, brake rotors and calipers, wider tires and the bodywork to cover them). The dry-sump oiling system from the Z06 and ZR1 is also fitted to manual Grand Sports, which means these special motors will now be hand assembled alongside their big-brother stablemates, the LS7 and LS9 engines, in Wixom Michigan, each by a single technician who will sign his or her work. The only major parts they had to tool up were the front fenders, which feature double-gill cove styling and are made of RIM plastic like the base car's, the rear quarter panels, unique new wheels, and the actual springs and dampers, which are tailored to the GS's unique weight and characteristics (they ride almost exactly like the old Z51's).
The Grand Sport replaces the Z51 in the model lineup as the highest performing "base" car, but it also allows folks to enjoy the killer wide-body stance and presence of a Z06 in a less extreme package that permits open-air motoring in either the removable-roof hatchback or convertible bodystyles. Paying for all those Z06 bits boosts the price by $4510 over the old Z51, but at $55,720 to start, it's about 20 grand cheaper than the aluminum-frame 7.0-liter Z06. Customers have evidently been clamoring for such a package so loudly that the team expects up to half of all Corvette sales to be Grand Sports.

Automobile Magazine First Drive of 2010 Corvette Grand Spot
Flogging a Corvette Grand Sport around the road course of GM's Milford proving grounds, we came to two conclusions. First, the Grand Sport is - unsurprisingly - very much a Corvette. The Grand Sport retains the same balanced and eager character that makes Corvettes so rewarding to drive hard. Second, the upgrades are perfect for the Corvette driver who pushes his car more than the average owner. With the stiffer suspension and wider tires, the Grand Sport can pull over 1 g in lateral acceleration. That means the ability to carry more speed through turns, while the large brakes do a fine job of reigning in that speed when necessary. The 430 hp is still more than sufficient, even when you're on the track. However, most of these cars will spend the majority of their life cruising public streets, and the Grand Sport also provides the ride and style, that most buyers want.
New for the entire Corvette lineup in 2010 is a launch control feature standard on manual-transmission cars. The system works by cycling to the appropriate stability control mode, shifting to first gear, flooring the throttle, waiting for the rpms to settle, and dropping the clutch as fast as you can. The result is a flawless launch with consistent repeatability. In our testing, we got lucky and beat the launch control program on our first 0-60 mph run in a Corvette ZR1. But our human limits had our times varying by more than half a second while the launch control kept each successive run within a few hundredths of a second.
