Purifoy Chevrolet Featured in Corvette Enthusiast Magazine

Purifoy Chevrolet was featured in Corvette Enthusiast with a full 5 page spread!

For the past several decades, Rollie Purifoy, Owner of Purifoy Chevrolet in Fort Lupton, Colorado, has been commissioning custom Corvettes of significance through his dealership, located in a small farming community 30 minutes north of Denver. While some of the cars have been customized solely through the dealership, others like the car we had the opportunity to review were collaborations between the dealership and Callaway Cars, for whom Purifoy has been a dealer for over two decades.

GM Auctions Corvette for Haiti Relief Efforts

GM recently donated a 2008 Corvette Z06 427 to be auctioned with 100% off the proceeds going to the Red Cross Haiti relief efforts.  The special edition Corvette was #427 of 427, and was signed by now-retired Bowling Green assembly plant manager, Wil Cooksey.  The car sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona in January.  The final selling price was $200,000!  Barrett-Jackson indicated they would waive both buyer and seller fees, so the entire selling price was donated to the relief efforts.

2011 Corvette Z06 Will Ride on Goodyear Tires

A recent press release by Goodyear has announced their involvement with the 2011 Corvette Z06:

AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NYSE: GT) is announcing its newest ultra-high performance tire, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2, and its arrival is boosted by the achievement of an original equipment position on the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 builds upon a three-decade relationship between Goodyear and Corvette. For Corvette owners and other enthusiasts who demand the most from their performance automobiles, the Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is “street-refined, but track-capable,” according to Bob Toth, Goodyear’s director of new products.

An asymmetric, directional tread design with massive tread blocks on the outboard shoulder help enhance dry cornering grip, while sweeping Aquachannel grooves on the inboard side of the tread help enhance wet cornering grip. An innovative multi-radius mold shape helps to offer precise handling and smooth, even wear.

Even the appearance of the tire is important; a serrated band sidewall styling and distinctive lettering add to the overall ultra-performance look.

“The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is positioned as a race-inspired, ultra-high performance dry traction tire for select supercars. With a left-side, right-side specific tread design, it offers superb dry traction and precise handling, complementing both the performance and appearance of sports cars,” Toth said.

The tire, tested on some of the most renowned road courses in North America, will be available this summer in these run-flat sizes: P275/35ZR18 and P325/30ZR19.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies. It employs approximately 70,000 people and manufactures its products in more than 58 facilities in 24 countries around the world.

Motor Trends' First Look: 2010 Corvette Grand Sport

Motor Trend took a First Look at the 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and liked what they saw:

Underneath all the shiny/pretty it's a base steel-frame LS3-powered 'Vette, to which are fitted a mix of Z51 performance package parts (spring rates, closer ratio manual transmission gearing and shorter axle ratio on the automatic), and Z06 bits (front and rear fascias, hood, anti-roll bars, brake rotors and calipers, wider tires and the bodywork to cover them). The dry-sump oiling system from the Z06 and ZR1 is also fitted to manual Grand Sports, which means these special motors will now be hand assembled alongside their big-brother stablemates, the LS7 and LS9 engines, in Wixom Michigan, each by a single technician who will sign his or her work. The only major parts they had to tool up were the front fenders, which feature double-gill cove styling and are made of RIM plastic like the base car's, the rear quarter panels, unique new wheels, and the actual springs and dampers, which are tailored to the GS's unique weight and characteristics (they ride almost exactly like the old Z51's).

The Grand Sport replaces the Z51 in the model lineup as the highest performing "base" car, but it also allows folks to enjoy the killer wide-body stance and presence of a Z06 in a less extreme package that permits open-air motoring in either the removable-roof hatchback or convertible bodystyles. Paying for all those Z06 bits boosts the price by $4510 over the old Z51, but at $55,720 to start, it's about 20 grand cheaper than the aluminum-frame 7.0-liter Z06. Customers have evidently been clamoring for such a package so loudly that the team expects up to half of all Corvette sales to be Grand Sports.
